The district around Hunkubakkar is well-known
for its natural beauty and mild climate.

tours to these destinations during the summer season. Hunkubakkar is
just one kilometre from the national highway, on the road to Lakagígar.
There are many places of interest in the immediate neighbourhood and
many remarkable geological features connected to the devastating eruptions

Hunkubakkar
is close to many natural attractions as well as being a short distance
from recreational facilities for visitors.
There are many interesting walks in the area, for instance into Fjadragljúfur
Canyon, along the eastern edge of the crags above Kirkjubæjarklaustur,
along the old cairned tracks and many more. Just ask! The possibilities
are endless. There is a swimming pool in the nearby town of Kirkjubæjarklaustur
(6 km) where there is also a handicraft shop selling locally made souvenirs
during the summer season. There is a golf course nearby (10 km).
